A BRIEF RECORD OF THE EXPLOITS OF JACK AND GILBERT INSALL
 WITH THE ROYAL FLYING CORP DURING THE SOMME OFFENSIVE
INCLUDING ALSO DETAILS OF MY OWN VISIT IN 1999 DURING WHICH
I WAS ABLE TO FLY IN MY GRANDFATHERS SLIPSTREAM!
This web site is dedicated to all those who fought, and the many who
lost their lives, during the Somme offensive in 1916.
The site records the exploits of my Grandfather Jack Insall
and his brother Gilbert, both of whom survived against all odds.
Jack was an Observer and Gilbert a Pilot at a time when the life
expectancy in the Royal Flying Corp was  a couple of weeks at the most.

Much of the information on this site has come from a book written
by Jack Insall titled 'Observer - Memoirs of the RFC 1915-18'
In addition I use a number of other books including the superb
Battlefield Guides by Major and Mrs Holt
